2019

I love seeing what musicians I admire use for their studio setup. So often you imagine that it’s some crazy big setup, only to read that a small and modest setup can get you there.

I’ve had many setups over the years, but here is what I am using currently in 2019. Hopefully it can be an inspiration to someone else.

Hardware

Studio

  • Computer - MacBook Pro 2016 (15”, 2.6GHz i7, 16GB)

  • Audio Interface - Focusrite Clarett 4Pre (This is the firewire 2 version)

  • MIDI Controller - Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol S49

  • Guitar Processor - Fractal AXE FX II

  • Studio Speakers - Fostex PM-1

  • Headphones

    • Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO (mixing)

    • Shure SRH940 (tracking)

Guitars

  • Aristides 080s - 8 String, my go to guitar for Nightmares of The Sun and anything requiring 8 Strings

  • Fender Offset Tele - All my single coil guitar sounds come from this one

  • PRS Holcomb - Tuned to C standard, mainly used for Synaescope

  • PRS DW CE - Tuned to C standard, for my Floyd Rose needs, mainly used for Synaescope

  • Schecter KM-7

  • Fender Vince Ray Outer Space Acoustic

  • Schecter Hellraiser C-8 - Heavily modified now with an EverTune bridge and BKP Warpig pickups

Basses

  • Dingwall NG-2 - 5 String tuned down to F# for pairing with 8 string guitar

  • Ibanez SRFF805 - Fan fret 5 string bass, great for everything

Other

  • Marshall JCM 2000 - When I want to record though a real tube amp I run this into a Two Notes load box and then into the AXE FX II for the cabinet simulation

  • Arturia Minibrute - for when playing with a real synth is called for

  • Lanikai Concert A/E Ukulele - Yes, I found a use for this on a metal track

  • Various guitar pedals - I have a bunch of different ones I use for different things, too many to list here

Software

DAW (Digital Audio Workstation)

  • Pro Tools - I’ve been using this for over 20 years
